Miaoli County’s Sanyi Township is home to many beautiful hidden spots that have recently been discovered by the public, making them popular destinations for Instagram photo shoots. In addition to the old mountain railway line featuring multiple tunnels, which netizens have dubbed a “Spirited Away”-like experience, the Liyutan Reservoir spanned by the Neishe River Iron Bridge captivates visitors with its shimmering waters and reflections.

Named after Liyutan Village in Sanyi Township, Miaoli County, Liyutan Reservoir is the largest reservoir in the county. It serves four main functions—irrigation, flood control, power generation, and tourism—and primarily supplies domestic, agricultural, and industrial water to Taichung City and County as well as Miaoli region.

The reservoir’s water resources nurture a rich diversity of flora and fauna, including abundant fish and shrimp, as well as natural broadleaf and secondary forests that are home to various wildlife species.
