Miaoli County’s Sanyi Township boasts many beautiful hidden spots, which have recently been discovered by the public and have since become popular IG photo spots. In addition to the multiple tunnels that line the area — the old mountain line railway, which netizens have dubbed a “Spirited Away”-like experience — the Lihyutan Reservoir spanned by the Neishe River Railway Bridge, with its shimmering waters and reflections, attracts many visitors.

Named after Lihyutan Village in Sanyi Township, Miaoli County, the Lihyutan Reservoir is the largest reservoir in the county. It serves four main functions: irrigation, flood control, power generation, and tourism, primarily supplying domestic, agricultural, and industrial water to Taichung City and County as well as Miaoli areas.

The reservoir’s water resources nurture a rich ecosystem of flora and fauna, including abundant fish and shrimp, along with natural broadleaf and secondary forests that are home to many wild animals.
