Suizhong Jieshi Palace

Jieshi Palace is located on the Zhimao Bay seashore, 56 kilometers west of Suizhong County and 15 kilometers from Shanhaiguan, stretching 10 kilometers in length. The area boasts beautiful scenery and a pleasant climate. The seawater is crystal clear and shallow with gentle waves, while the beach is broad, flat, and covered with fine white sand free of mud, with no reefs in the sea. The seabed of the beach gradually slopes downward, and the water is only chest-deep even a hundred meters from the shore.

In the shallow waters on the eastern side of Zhimao Bay, the seabed has an even gentler slope, with water just brushing the feet — making it perfect for children to play in. About 200 meters from the shore, three massive reefs rise from the sea, standing approximately 20 meters above the water surface. Local folklore says these are the spots where Meng Jiangnu threw herself into the sea and perished. During low tide, a giant rocky path seems to emerge from the shore to the reefs, almost like a submerged causeway leading straight to the base of the rocks. On both the eastern and western sides of Meng Jiangnu’s Tomb, steep cliffs extend toward the sea: the eastern one is called Hongshilazi, and the western one is called Heishilazi (also known as Heishantou), resembling two giant dragons lying quietly in the sea, forming a unique landscape akin to “two dragons playing with a pearl” (the pearl being the reef in the sea). In recent years, archaeological discoveries have confirmed that Meng Jiangnu’s Tomb is indeed the legendary Jieshi, where historical emperors such as Qin Shi Huang, Emperor Wu of Han, and Emperor Wu of Wei “visited the east to gaze upon the vast sea.” Massive ruins of imperial palaces from the Qin and Han dynasties have been found at the sites of Red Rock Ledge, Black Rock Ledge, and the stone tablet area directly opposite Jieshi.

In 1994, Liaoning Province began developing a tourism and resort area here. A series of world-class vacation facilities will be built here, including top-tier golf courses, yacht clubs, resort hotels, and villas.
