Gaoshan Scenic Area

Gaoshan is a landmark landscape of Fushun City and a renowned, culturally rich mountain in the Liaoshen region. It is a large-scale comprehensive scenic area that integrates mountain scenery, historical sites, and classical gardens, and is also the only mountain park in Liaoning Province built on the ruins of an ancient city.

Gaoshan Park is the highlight of the scenic area, covering an area of 1.5 million square meters. Within the park are the Gaoshan Mountain City, which was originally built in 396 AD, as well as royal classical garden structures such as Suoyang Huaiyin, Suoyang Tower, side halls, an octagonal pavilion, a pentagonal pavilion, and corridors. Scenic spots include Tumen Diecui, Songlin Xingyu, Wanshan Chaota, and Dengdao Liudan. The terrain within the park is undulating and varied, with elevations ranging between 80 and 230 meters. “The mountain presses close to the heavens; here, one can already take in a thousand-mile view. The gate leans against the mountainside—why climb yet another floor?” From atop Gaoshan, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city.

The ancient Gaoshan Pagoda is a witness to history. Originally built in 1088 AD, after nearly a thousand years of weathering, the Gaoshan Pagoda still stands proudly, towering above all. It is the oldest existing pagoda in the Fushun area, standing 14.10 meters tall with a diameter of 6.8 meters. The pagoda is octagonal in shape and features an eight-sided, nine-tiered dense-eave structure. With its simple yet classic design and precise layout, the pagoda fully showcases the ingenuity and superior craftsmanship of ancient Chinese artisans. Not far from the pagoda, halfway up the mountain, lies an ancient temple called the “Guanyin Pavilion.” This temple stretches across the mountainside, forming a picturesque scene with the pagoda atop the peak.
