Key Relics Area of the Liao Dynasty in Erdaogou

The Key Relics Area of the Liao Dynasty in Erdaogou is a cultural heritage protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The Key Relics Area of the Liao Dynasty in Erdaogou is located in the valley locally known as Erdaogou in Futun Township, Beizhen City, and on the West Mountain at the summit of Yiwulv Mountain. It is the main distribution area of tombs and architectural relics within the range of the Qianling Mausoleum of the Liao Dynasty, and is one of the key cultural heritage protection areas in Beizhen.

Erdaogou stretches from northwest to southeast, measuring 10 kilometers from east to west and 3 kilometers from north to south, covering a total area of 30 square kilometers. Since 1956, archaeological surveys have identified 11 sites within this area, including the Longgangzi Tomb Cluster, Suntun Tomb Cluster, Liuli Temple Site, West Mountain Site of Liuli Temple, Wanghaitang Site, Shiqiazi Site, East Slope Site of Longgangzi, South Mountain Site of Longgangzi, West Slope Site of Longgangzi, Southwest Mountain Site of Longgangzi, and Cisheng Temple Site. Among these, 10 Liao Dynasty tombs, 9 architectural sites, and 3 suspected tombs have been discovered. Notably, a large complex of building foundations and stone-built city walls extending 530 meters were found at the Liuli Temple Site. Experts have confirmed this as the location of the main mausoleum area of the Qianling Mausoleum of the Liao Dynasty.

The extant tombs and architectural ruins in Erdaogou are relatively well-preserved, providing important clues and physical evidence for the study and verification of the location and scope of the Qianling Mausoleum of the Liao Dynasty. They hold significant historical and archaeological research value and are designated as a national key cultural heritage protection unit.
