Drift off to sleep surrounded by the scent of books—Tokyo’s new “bookstore” capsule hotel is here!

By Editor S I’ve visited many bookstores and stayed in hostels and capsule hotels, so I’m really looking forward to this upcoming bookstore capsule hotel in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Designed by the “SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE,” a team consisting of Makoto Tanijiri and Ai Yoshida, this bookstore capsule hotel brings to life my dream of “reading in bed.” You’re always surrounded by books—even if you can’t read the words, you can still enjoy the smell of them.

It was originally set to open in September but has been postponed—something to truly look forward to. For now, let’s take a look at their mock-up images to see how books and lodging come together.

There are also some public spaces available for non-guests, though no book purchasing services are offered. The room rates haven’t been finalized yet, but as a capsule hotel, they likely won’t exceed 5,000 yen per night.
