New Taipei City’s Happy Christmas Town — Old Pig and Bandit accompany you to see the world’s only 3D projection Christmas tree

The 2015 New Taipei City Happy Christmas Town, set to open on November 20, this year showcases technological creativity by inviting an Australian light art company to create the world’s only 360-degree 3D stereoscopic projection Christmas tree. The event also features six major highlights led by Adventure Time characters Marceline the Vampire Queen (Bandit) and Finn the Human (Old Pig).

This year’s Happy Christmas Town event will run from November 20 to January 3, 2016, spanning a total of 45 days. Entering its fifth year, the event has invited Australia’s The Electric Canvas (TEC) team to create, for the first time, a 3D projection effect for New Taipei City’s Christmas tree. TEC, which has previously produced the world’s largest Sydney Light Festival, is also designing a 3D projection on a conical column for the first time.

At that time, TEC will use 12 sets of projection lights to illuminate the Christmas tree with 3D effects reaching a light intensity of 240,000 lumens — equivalent to the brightness of 24,000 iPhone flashlights turned on simultaneously — to present delicate 3D animations.

In addition to the 3D main light show, there are also six major highlights this year including cartoon stars, a Christmas market, and blue-gold lighting displays. Cartoon characters from Adventure Time, Regular Show, and The Amazing World of Gumball will appear in the Wanping Park area. In addition, the Christmas town will feature six European-style Christmas markets selling limited-edition merchandise. This year also incorporates Tiffany Blue and Fashion Gold color schemes to decorate the Christmas town. This year, illustrator Bu Tao Xi has also designed the Santa Bear and Square Head Bear for New Taipei City, and the OPEN小将 (OPEN San) family will interact with the public within the Happy Christmas Town.

The New Taipei City Government stated that the official tree lighting and town opening will take place at 18:30 on November 20. During the event, from 17:30 to 22:00 every night, a magical Christmas tree main light show will be performed every half hour. In addition to using 3D projection technology, the main light show music will be composed by renowned Taiwanese violinist Lee Si-hui. Following the tree lighting launch, a variety of other activities such as a Children’s Carnival, performances by the If Theater Troupe, and balloon parades will be held, allowing the public to experience thrilling sensory entertainment and create wonderful Christmas memories on-site.
