Affordable Creative Dishes in Kaohsiung – Featuring Stir-Fried Instant Noodles & Pizza Egg Pancakes in Various Flavors

The area near Kaohsiung Medical University is a top food hub, supported by Jilin Night Market and Rehe Street’s culinary offerings, making it a great spot for locals to dine. In early August, just down the same street as Guangdong Duck Restaurant, a new small eatery specializing in creative instant noodles opened. Don’t let the young owner’s age fool you—he has years of culinary experience. A cooking enthusiast, he’s now starting a new chapter by launching this venture with his family.

The name "Unbridled Imagination" (天马行空) might be tied to the fact that all the dishes here are creatively conceived by the owner. Initially, the shop offered brunch, but after testing and adjustments, it now focuses on creative stir-fried instant noodles and egg pancakes, with adjusted business hours. Built from scratch by the family, the place may lack lavish decor or an upscale ambiance, but the dining space is simple, clean, and accompanied by music.

Utensils, condiments, and drinks are neatly arranged on the shelves at the back of the store for easy customer access.

The shop offers free black tea, which customers can help themselves to. The tea is homemade, with a pleasant taste and moderate sweetness.

The menu mainly includes stir-fried instant noodles, creative egg pancakes, pot-noodle series, and à la carte sides. Ordering a main dish comes with a complimentary bowl of hot soup, making it a great deal for under NT$100.

Traditional-Style Scallion Stir-Fry – NT$60

This is the basic flavor of stir-fried instant noodles. The scallion oil is homemade, giving off nostalgic grandma-style flavors with rich aroma. It’s stir-fried with onions to bring out a sweet note, making it irresistible to keep eating.

Korean Kimchi Fried Noodles – NT$80

You can smell the tangy kimchi in the air even before taking a bite. The first taste reveals a mild sourness and saltiness from the kimchi, without any spiciness.

Chef’s Special Cheese Creation – NT$99

Don’t be fooled—this isn’t Italian pasta, but stir-fried instant noodles. This is the owner’s creative idea, best eaten while hot, or the cheese will clump together.

Using Western cooking techniques to prepare stir-fried instant noodles is quite innovative. The combination of the two ingredients feels seamless, adding a unique highlight that’s surprisingly delightful. Cheese lovers, this one’s a must-try.

Ham & Corn Pizza Egg Pancake – NT$50

Inspired by pizza fillings, this dish uses crispy, slightly charred egg pancake skin filled with generous amounts of cheese, ham, and corn. It’s a far cry from traditional Chinese egg pancakes in both flavor and texture, with a hearty portion that can serve as a full meal.

Mixed Mushroom Pizza Egg Pancake – NT$60

Combining cheese and mushrooms inside a crispy-edged egg pancake gives it a Western twist. You can faintly taste the pepper seasoning on the pancake skin, while the soft filling contrasts nicely with the crispy crust—creating a uniquely memorable texture.

The complimentary clear soup that comes with a main dish was a vegetable tofu soup on the day of my visit—generous in portion and substance, and best of all, free with every main order.

The owner mentioned they’ll rotate different types of hot soups in the future. Such generosity truly makes it a great value.

With a talent for using cheese in creative ways in both stir-fried noodles and egg pancakes, the dishes here are both inventive and delicious. Thinking about having another movie night, I’m happy to know there’s a new go-to spot. The owner and their family are warm and hospitable, with solid cooking skills. Whether you live nearby or are out shopping or catching a movie, noodle fans should give this place a try—I highly recommend it.
