Japan boasts a rugged and complex terrain along with abundant rainfall, resulting in many waterfalls across the country. TripAdvisor Japan K.K., the Japanese arm of the world’s largest travel review site TripAdvisor, has published the "Japan Waterfalls Ranking Selected by Reviews" based on user-contributed reviews on the site.Topping the list this time is "Nabegataki Falls" in Oguni Town, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Famous for its "Urami Falls," which allows you to walk behind the cascading water, you can gaze at the lush green forest through the silk-like curtain of flowing water.

Coming in second place is "Nachi Falls" in Nachikatsuura Town, Wakayama Prefecture, registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of its sections boasts the highest single-drop waterfall in Japan, and the waterfall itself is revered as a sacred object, making it an object of worship since ancient times. In third place is "Oogama Falls" on Yakushima Island, Kagoshima Prefecture. A massive volume of water cascades down an 88-meter-high slightly inclined cliff, offering a breathtaking sight unique to the rainy island of Yakushima. Additionally, from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, a total of 20 waterfalls from 19 prefectures across Japan made the list.
