Next to New Taipei City’s Shin Kong Mitsukoshi and adjacent to the Regent Taipei, there are two great restaurants: one specializes in premium grilled beef (Laokanbei), while the other offers Japanese cuisine – [Tsukayasan]. Today, we’re here for the delicious nigiri sushi – a whole 12-piece set for only 590 TWD, what a bargain~

Tsukayasan is located right next to the entrance of the Regent Taipei. To be honest, its location is a bit tricky because it’s blocked by the newly completed Cathay Building on the front side. On the left is Laokanbei, and on the right you can only see the hotel. The exterior features large transparent glass, but inside it still maintains the usual sense of privacy found in Japanese restaurants.

[Tsukayasan Japanese Cuisine] is actually part of the same group as [Kichizou Japanese Cuisine] in Anping, but the two have different positioning. Tsukayasan feels more modern and youthful, offering omakase courses, whereas Kichizou is a more traditional Japanese restaurant, making it a better choice for dining with elders – each has its own merits.

From the outside it looks quite spacious, but the actual interior can accommodate about 20–30 people. The space features a modern design with comfortable and roomy seating.

There’s also a single private room, which is perfect for family gatherings or small get-togethers with friends~

Is anyone else like me!? I absolutely love watching Japanese chefs torch nigiri sushi with their blowtorches – I can’t help but stare at the flames. And the focused expression on the chef’s face makes for a wonderful scene too.

At the counter, there are various fresh ingredients on display – fish, oysters, sea urchin… each one maintaining vibrant, firm colors that scream freshness.

The display cabinet also holds a good selection of Japanese sake – having a little drink now and then is quite nice.

● [ETtoday News Cloud] reminds you: Don’t drink and drive. Don’t drive after drinking.

The 590 TWD mixed nigiri sushi set here is extremely popular, and these aren’t ours!! They’re sold at an affordable price, yet the craftsmanship and plating are top-notch – highly recommended. Look at how they’re lined up, all colorful and unique – it’s really quite a sight XDDD

They’ve recently updated the menu, lowering prices overall, and the taste is on par with its sister restaurant, Kichizou. Additionally, the counter omakase dishes aren’t too pricey either – would definitely like to try them another day.

Bargain alert!! The average price per piece of the mixed nigiri sushi is around 50 TWD – the more you order, the better the deal XD Other items like seafood N<、乌冬面、综合生鱼片等,也都比之前便宜,说真的,以藏也这样等级的日料餐厅来说,新价格应该算非常平实了。

Until 12/13, order 800 TWD or more and get a free fried shrimp nigiri voucher; spend 1500 TWD and get an additional discount coupon. Actually, the 800 TWD threshold is quite low – it’s probably hard for two people not to reach it...

Since it’s my hardworking husband’s birthday, of course the budget is unlimited – let’s order whatever we want~ First up, a bowl of fresh assorted seafood N<饭吧!! 反正最后受惠的也是我>///<

Scallops, salmon, spaghetti eel, red shrimp, salmon roe… it’s all super generous, every piece of seafood is jumbo-sized. Each slice of sashimi is so big it needs two or three bites to finish – so satisfying to eat. Also, the vinegar rice at Tsukayasan is quite special – it’s made with plum, giving it a lovely pink color and a subtle, pleasant plum flavor.

For an extra 100 TWD, you can upgrade to a set meal that includes a Japanese salad, vegetable tempura shrimp, and miso soup. The staff will also ask if you’d like to switch the soup to “red miso” – it costs an additional 30 TWD, but the red miso tastes richer and more fragrant. It’s up to personal preference.

Ta-da~ This stunning 12-piece premium nigiri sushi set is just so luxurious XD In the past I only dared to order a six-piece set, but now this one here is just 590 TWD – can’t miss out. Every piece is a different type of seafood, some served raw, some torched, all with beautiful colors.

Take a closer look!! Sea urchin, salmon roe, amberjack belly, flounder side fillet, squid, red shrimp, spaghetti eel, scallops, and even torched wagyu beef – so rich and delicious, just looking at the photos makes my mouth water again. It’s served with wasabi from Alishan, and even the ginger slices are homemade, refreshing and great for cutting through the fishiness.

Cheese seared dish: specially concentrated cheese is marinated in several types of miso for two days, then grilled until hot – it’s rich and flavorful. But it’s best eaten hot. One piece that Colin saved for last became a bit greasy once cooled. Cheese lovers should definitely give it a try~

This piece of eel nigiri sushi is seriously huge – even guys need three bites to finish it. The sauce on top doesn’t overshadow the eel at all, and the fine bones have all been carefully removed. It’s just so delicious, incredibly satisfying XD

Fried shrimp nigiri – this one’s special. Mimi had never tried this combo before either. One shrimp is made into two pieces, and it’s crispy, fragrant, and tasty. We both really liked it. The mayo on top is just right – if you just had the fried shrimp and rice, it might feel a bit dry, but adding the mayo gives it a sweet touch that makes it even better.

Yam mentaiko: the base layer is crispy yam, topped with rich mentaiko. It has a salty, savory flavor plus the unique sweetness of the yam – pretty good.

Free-range chicken karaage: the staff told us upfront that it’s pre-marinated in sauce, hence the darker color. The skin is crispy, salty, and fragrant, while the inside remains juicy and tender. Mimi felt no dipping sauce was needed – it’s delicious as is.

I really like the current version of Tsukayasan’s menu – the value for money has improved a lot, especially the nigiri sushi which is just fantastic, making me think… visiting multiple times isn’t out of the question XD Also, no need to worry about parking – you can park at the B4 parking lot of the nearby Shin Kong Mitsukoshi.
