The much-anticipated Pingtung “Shanchuan Liuli Suspension Bridge,” not yet officially opened, is scheduled to begin a three-month free trial operation from December 26. Visitors will be able to admire this all-ethnic-style, longest hammock-style suspension bridge in Taiwan.

The “Shanchuan Liuli Suspension Bridge” is 262 meters long and approximately 45 meters above the ground. Located downstream from the old suspension bridge, it connects Sandi Village in Sandimen Township with Beiyeh Village in Majia Township. Spanning between two mountain peaks, the bridge offers a breathtaking view of the majestic mountain ranges below. The bridge’s design draws inspiration from the glass beads representing the Paiwan and Rukai tribes, featuring glass installations on both sides. Additionally, there are 24 storyboards narrating touching tales from the tribes, enhanced with light art, making the bridge feel like a corridor of stories as visitors walk across.

The Pingtung County Government stated that the Shanchuan Liuli Suspension Bridge can hold up to 100 people on the bridge deck, so crowd control measures will be implemented on-site in the future. To accommodate the expected influx of tourists, the county government has coordinated over a thousand free parking spaces at the foot of the mountain. Additionally, similar to the shuttle bus model used earlier this year for Pingtung’s painted rice fields, a paid shuttle service will be provided.

The “Shanchuan Liuli Suspension Bridge” will begin a three-month trial operation starting December 26, during which admission will be free. After the trial period, an admission fee will be charged, with discounted tickets available for local residents.
