New winter hot spring spot in Kaohsiung: Soak your feet and enjoy flowers at BaoLai Hot Spring Park

As temperatures gradually cool down, it’s once again the perfect season for a relaxing hot spring soak. Located by a tributary of the Nanzixian River in the BaoLai area of Liouguei District, Kaohsiung, the region is famed for its hot springs and plum blossoms. Following severe damage caused by Typhoon Morakot, years of reconstruction efforts have led to the discovery of a new hot spring source. A brand-new attraction, the “BaoLai Flower Viewing Hot Spring Park,” has now been created, offering visitors a cozy spot to warm up their hands and feet during the cold winter months.

The hot spring source produces approximately 170 metric tons of water per day at a temperature of 52 degrees Celsius. The water is rich in bicarbonate ions, at 16 times the standard value, making it a high-quality bicarbonate spring. To attract more visitors to enjoy the hot springs, the municipal government invested 40 million New Taiwan Dollars to develop the 5.4-hectare BaoLai Flower Viewing Hot Spring Park, which includes facilities such as foot baths and hand baths.

In addition to hot springs, the park is also planted with a rich variety of plants and flowers. The plateau terrain offers multi-layered floral sea views, and specially designed flower-viewing trails allow visitors to not only soak their hands and feet but also enjoy the beautiful scenery. This winter, travelers have one more great destination for flower viewing and hot spring relaxation. The park is expected to open before the end of the year.
