Bringing Oktoberfest to downtown Taipei – A European-style carnival kicks off on 10/27

In conjunction with the “2017 Taipei World Food Tour” event organized by the Taipei City Government, Taipei 101 has specially launched the “European Flavors Carnival” this year. In addition to bringing in the Tamsui German Beer Festival, there will also be 20 cuisines from 11 countries including Germany, the UK, France, Belgium, Greece, Turkey, Slovakia, Spain, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Italy. The event will take place at Taipei 101’s Water Dance Plaza from October 27 to November 12.

For this “European Flavors Carnival & German Beer Festival” event, Taipei 101 has specially collaborated with the German Institute Taipei and the German Economic Office to introduce the over 200-year-old “Munich Oktoberfest,” the Wunder Bar restaurant with 14 years of consecutive experience hosting German beer festivals, and the world’s most popular German wheat beer brand—Erdinger. Together, they have created limited-time festival meal sets for this beer festival.

The German Beer Festival features an authentic Bavarian beer tent with 60 tables and 500 seats. Even the tables, chairs, hanging decorations, the full Bavarian Express Band, and the classic three-meter-long Alpine alphorn have all been shipped from Germany to Taiwan. In addition to the official beer of the German Beer Festival, Erdinger wheat beer, the on-site delicacies include Obatzda cheese, grilled sausages, pork knuckle, roast chicken, pork belly, bratwurst, potato salad, pretzels, Turkish delight, and more. There is also a German beer festival set menu (for 8 people), priced between NT$16,000 and NT$22,000.

Additionally, adjacent to the large German Beer Festival tent and surrounding the Taipei 101 Water Dance Plaza are small specialty tents. These are 20+ international cuisines from 11 countries invited by Taipei 101, featuring BELGA waffles from Belgium, bread endorsed by the French president, handmade honey cakes from the Czech Republic, British fish and chips, Spanish and Italian dishes, Dutch national favorite pancakes, and Turkish ice cream. Germany is also represented with Tucher beer and Schloss Johannisberg beer distributed by Ying Xin, as well as numerous German brands introduced by JASONS. From Slovakia, there’s Lávínov slivovitz ice cream, Greece offers Yamas flatbread dips, and there are also natural cheeses promoted jointly by the French National Dairy Association and the EU.

For entry fees, the German Beer Festival tent area requires the purchase of a special event ticket for the beer tent, known as the “Oktoberfest Event Ticket,” which costs NT$1,000. The European Market is access-controlled, but all transactions must be made using the special market event voucher, the “Food Smart Card,” priced at NT$500 per card.
