Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor is world-renowned, and the leftover distiller's grains from the brewery are used as cattle feed, giving Kinmen’s distiller's grain-fed beef a bit of fame. If you want to taste authentic Kinmen beef, “GaoKeng Beef Shop,” located in GaoKeng and operated by three generations over 60 years, is definitely one of your top choices. The shop is famous for its full beef meal,“Bull Penis Stewed Chicken Soup”is a signature must-try dish.

Kinmen tour guide Ye Changhui said there are other all-beef restaurants in Kinmen, but this one is located in an out-of-the-way area “where not even a bird would nest” with not many visitors, yet it does particularly well—proving its unique appeal and deliciousness. In fact, “GaoKeng Beef” is also the original pioneer of Kinmen’s all-beef dining.
The full beef meal consists of 18 dishes made with various parts of the cow, priced at NT$7,000. The selection includes beef sausage, beef brisket, beef short ribs, bull penis chicken soup, beef tendons, beef rolls, beef noodles, beef tripe, and more—you can say you’re eating from head to tail. The half-beef set is NT$3,500, but excludes many dishes including bull penis. For groups, it’s recommended to go for the full beef meal and make a reservation in advance.

Current owner Chen Ruihong, the third-generation proprietor of “GaoKeng Beef,” said the 18 dishes have all stood the test of time, and the broth is made by simmering beef bones. In the early days, wood-fired cooking gave it a unique aroma, but with changing times and increased sales volume, wood is no longer used. He recommends starting with the bull penis soup because it’s truly rare—and you should order it early, as it takes longer to prepare. The bull penis is quite tough and needs extended stewing to become tender and flavorful.
