Christmas is just around the corner, but haven’t you felt the joyful festive atmosphere yet? ETtoday EBC News Cloud has compiled a list of major Christmas celebrations and uniquely themed Christmas trees across Taiwan. Why not take some time this cold winter to soak in the warm holiday spirit?

1. Taipei Xinyi District
Taipei’s Xinyi District is decked out with various festive decorations that bring a strong Christmas vibe. This year, aside from the Christmas light displays and tree installations at Hankyu Department Store, there are also uniquely designed thematic Christmas trees at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi A11 and Taipei 101. Ranging from movie-inspired designs to cultural and creative themes to romantic styles, they offer something for everyone to enjoy a romantic holiday season.

2. Taipei Gongguan Christmas Season
The Taipei Water Park is hosting the nearly month-long Gongguan Christmas Season event. Themed “Crystal Snow Christmas, Blooming at the Water Museum,” this year’s celebration features floral displays, as well as decorations such as reindeer and sleighs, creating a strong festive atmosphere. On the 19th, a free Christmas concert will be held featuring a wind ensemble performance conducted by Professor Ye Shuhhan — come early and enjoy a romantic Christmas.

3. New Taipei City – Happy Christmas City
New Taipei City’s Happy Christmas City features the “World’s Only 360-Degree 3D Projection Christmas Tree” as its main attraction. The dreamy, immersive visual display draws large crowds. In addition to the main show, there are nine other performances for visitors to enjoy, immersing them in the vibrant, colorful atmosphere of the New Taipei City Civic Plaza.

Location: No. 161, Section 1, Zhongshan Road, Banqiao District, New Taipei City (New Taipei City Civic Plaza)
Main Light Show: 17:30–22:00, every half hour; 22:00–24:00 daily is the hidden session for light sculpture masters (no music effects)

4. Taichung – Dreamy Christmas Park
The usually formal Taichung City Hall Plaza has been transformed this year into a warm and cozy “Dreamy Christmas Park.” It features an 18-meter-high LED-lit Christmas tree, with a giant gingerbread house at its base that can accommodate up to 20 visitors. There are also five large amusement rides including a hot air balloon, carousel, mini train, spinning boats, and spinning coffee cups, making it a playground for both kids and adults right in the city center.

5. Tainan
This year, Tainan City Tourism Bureau has turned the entire historic capital into a massive Christmas light festival. In collaboration with National Cheng Kung University, Kun Shan University, and Tainan University of Technology, four main light display zones have been planned.

1. Plaza in front of the National Museum of Taiwan Literature    Theme: White Veil Holy Night
2. Xinying Cultural Center Plaza    Theme: Red Rhapsody
3. Roundabout at Tainan Railway Station    Theme: Green Tribute
4. Anping Recreation Wharf        Theme: Blue Sea Serenade

Locations: Plaza in front of the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, Xinying Cultural Center Plaza, roundabout at Tainan Railway Station, Anping Recreation Wharf
Light Festival display hours: December 1, 2015 to January 31, 2016, 18:00–24:00

Additionally, the Minzhi Civic Center of Tainan City Government has designed a large snowflake installation in the green lawn of the Civic Plaza, formed by six sparkling diamond shapes surrounding the central Christmas tree. This is complemented by nighttime water and light shows, creating a dazzling, joyful, and festive atmosphere.

6. Pingtung – Wanjin Christmas Festival
The Wanjin Christmas Festival features not only a 12-foot-tall main light display titled “Shared Blessings of Light,” but also five major light zones and a sea of lights formed by a thousand rose-shaped lamps. Simply strolling through the streets around Wanjin allows you to immerse yourself in a strong Christmas atmosphere. Additionally, the highlight is the 3D light projection show. The 10-minute projection not only continues the religious and joyful Christmas spirit but also specially incorporates major festivals of Pingtung County.
