Dreaming of looking Mount Fuji in the eye? That dream has come true with the official opening on the 14th of Japan’sHakone West Foot Mishima Grand Suspension Bridge, which stretches an impressive 400 meters, making it Japan’s longest bridge designed solely for pedestrians.
Located in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture, the Hakone West Foot Mishima Grand Suspension Bridge is also nicknamed Mishima SkyWalk. Visitors can stand 70 meters above the ground, enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the layered mountains of Izu up close, and gaze at Mount Fuji in the distance. If traveling by car from Lake Ashi in Hakone, it only takes about 15 minutes to get there. With a total length of 400 meters, Mishima SkyWalk surpasses the Kuju Dream Suspension Bridge in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, becoming Japan’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge.

The Hakone West Foot Mishima Grand Suspension Bridge operates on a paid entry system: adults 1,000 yen, junior and senior high school students 500 yen, elementary school students 200 yen, and infants are free. However, visitors should note that the bridge may be temporarily closed if wind speeds exceed a certain threshold.
