Top 10 Amazing Routes Across Taiwan: Free Travel to Kenting & Sun Moon Lake with Student ID

In line with the consumption-boosting measures introduced by the Executive Yuan last year, the Directorate General of Highways has launched ultra-discounted fares on ten featured bus routes starting from the winter vacation period, from January 21 to February 29. With the purchase of one full-price ticket, children under 12 and seniors over 65 traveling with you ride for free—no limit on the number of free riders. Students in junior high school and above can also ride for free by presenting their student ID.

To encourage families and students to explore major tourist attractions across Taiwan by bus during the winter vacation and Lunar New Year holiday, and to experience public transport services, the Directorate General of Highways has rolled out an enhanced consumption-boosting initiative under the “10 Amazing Routes 2.0”.

Liang Kuo-kuo, Deputy Director of the Directorate General of Highways’ Supervision Division, said that the “Top 10 Amazing Bus Routes” vote was held for two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015. In 2015, over 3 million people enthusiastically participated, selecting their favorite amazing routes. The selected routes cover not only well-known destinations such as Taipei and New Taipei, Eastern and Southern Taiwan, Yilan, Sun Moon Lake, and Kenting, but in 2015 also included the Kinmen offshore route “Return to the Ancient Battlefield – The Spectacular Ancient Ningting,” where travelers can visit the Ancient Ningting Battle History Museum, Cihu Triangular Fort, and Guangqian Temple.

The promotional period for the 10 Amazing Routes runs from January 21 to February 29. Huang Yun-gui, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate General of Highways, noted that due to limited funding for the campaign, the discounts will be available until the NT$6 million budget is exhausted. The end date of the campaign will be announced early via the Directorate General of Highways website or at bus ticket offices.

The enhanced offers are as follows:

(1) Purchase one full-price ticket, and children under 12 and seniors over 65 traveling with you ride for free, with no limit on the number of free companions.

(2) “Free Ride with Junior High School Student ID or Above – Register Your Info”: Students in junior high school and above can present their student ID at designated ticket offices of the 10 Amazing Routes 2.0 to register their information and enjoy free rides on these ten routes.
