The opening of the semi-melted cheese tart draws huge crowds; a 4-hour wait at the first-floor takeaway store

Japan’s No. 1 popular freshly baked semi-melted cheese tart, PABLO, officially opened its first Taiwan branch on January 15 at HOYII North Station. Whether at the takeaway store or the dine-in area, people started queuing as early as 6 a.m. Due to an offer at the first-floor takeaway—where the first 500 customers (regardless of purchase amount) receive a NT$500 gift voucher—a large crowd gathered. By around noon, the line stretched from the front entrance of Tim Ho Wan all the way to the nearby YMCA at the back of the building. With the queue organized in a block-style S formation, it was estimated that over 500 people were waiting, with an average wait of about 4 hours to get their hands on a freshly baked semi-melted cheese tart.

Apart from the takeaway, over 160 people were also queuing for dine-in. Since dine-in doesn’t have a set mealtime, the store controlled the number of people once the crowd got too large, no longer accepting more queuers—mainly to prevent customers from waiting too long. The first person in the dining queue had arrived at 6 a.m., while PABLO’s first Taiwan branch opened at 11 a.m., meaning that person waited 5 hours before being able to enjoy the freshly baked semi-melted cheese tart. As for others who arrived around 8 a.m., they didn’t get to eat until after 12 p.m., resulting in a wait of around 4 hours as well.
