Since September 2015 (the 104th year of the Heisei era), a highly popular Kyoto vegetable restaurant has opened in Kyoto, located next to the Kyoto Aquarium. The restaurant integrates scenic views with dining — just by sitting inside, you can enjoy the changing seasons through the floor-to-ceiling windows and savor vegetables grown right here in Kyoto, making it very popular among locals.

Situated near Kyoto Station,“Maruyama Park”may not be a well-known tourist spot for travelers from Taiwan, but it’s a favorite local place for strolling and enjoying the fall foliage. In addition to tourist attractions such as the Kyoto Aquarium and the Kyoto Railway Museum, a new “Kyoto Vegetable Restaurant Maruyama Park” has opened. Taking inspiration from the park’s natural scenery, its elegant setting fits perfectly with the refined tastes of Kyoto residents, naturally making it one of the popular dining spots.
The ceiling is high, letting in natural light, and floor-to-ceiling glass surrounds the space, immersing diners in the park’s landscape. Right in the center of the restaurant, and thanks to its proximity to the aquarium, there is also a medium-sized aquarium. The restaurant mainly uses Kyoto vegetables in its dishes. Staff say the menu changes with the seasons and adopts a semi-buffet style for guests to choose from. The most popular option is a lunch set that includes cold dishes, warm dishes, drinks, and soup.

With an atmosphere that exudes the refined charm of a hip café yet offers the heartiness of a restaurant, the “Kyoto Vegetable Restaurant Maruyama Park” focuses on vegetable-based dishes. Prepared with minimal salt and oil, whether served cold or lightly cooked, the light flavors don’t overwhelm the palate but still highlight the taste of local vegetables. Sitting by the floor-to-ceiling windows, slowly savoring Kyoto vegetable dishes, and taking your time to appreciate Kyoto — it’s a truly delightful experience.
