In the early hours of February 6, a powerful 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan. The "Meinong Earthquake" shook southern Taiwan, with Tainan suffering particularly severe damage. The disaster drew international attention, and various parts of Japan expressed their concern. A Taiwanese traveler at Tokyo’s Akihabara Station photographed Japanese people holding signs that read “Go Taiwan,” as well as an elderly woman holding a donation box labeled “Taiwan Earthquake Relief Fund,” raising money on the street in near-freezing temperatures of around 8°F.

After traveler Frank shared the photos, many netizens left comments such as “So touching,” “Thank you, Japan,” and “It’s really heartwarming to see elderly people raising funds for us on a cold street.” One netizen also said:“Though we speak different languages, our gratitude is the same. How wonderful it would be if the whole world were filled with such love. Thank you, Japan.”
