The 2016 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival Kicks Off with a "Childlike Wonder" Theme to Pray for Tainan

The "2016 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival" began on the evening of the 11th. To show support for southern Taiwan, which was severely struck by a powerful earthquake, New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Hou Yu-i, along with attendees, lit sky lanterns together to pray for the disaster victims. They hoped to minimize the damage and help everyone overcome the hardships safely. Everyone was also invited to cheer for Tainan and for Taiwan as a whole.

The first event of the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival centered around the theme of "Childlike Wonder," featuring many parents and children releasing lanterns together, creating a warm and lively atmosphere. Aside from the main lantern—the 8TN "Childlike Wonder Fingerprint Sky Lantern"—which was covered with countless fingerprints, 60 uniquely designed lanterns also soared into the sky carrying numerous wishes for happiness.

The second event will be held on February 14th (Sunday) at Pingxi Junior High School. As it coincides with Valentine’s Day, the event will feature the "Hearts Connected Main Lantern," made from the imprints of love from a thousand couples. The third and final event will take place on February 22nd (Monday), during the Lantern Festival, at Shifen Square. It will feature the "Around the World Sky Lantern," created from beautiful landscapes collected by a six-year-old girl named "Qingqing." Both events will offer 1,200 and 1,600 free 4TN traditional sky lanterns for public release, respectively. On-site registration begins at 10:30 AM and is available until all slots are filled.

From 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM on the day of the event, a complete traffic control for cars and motorcycles will be enforced around the venue. Please use the event shuttle buses or trains to get there. Third Event
Date: February 22nd
Theme: Travel the World, Find Happiness in Shifen. The 16TN "Around the World Sky Lantern" will rise slowly, carrying beautiful sights from around the world and highlights from Taipei and New Taipei.
