Chiayi has been gaining new attractions lately. In addition to the National Palace Museum Southern Branch and the Glass Heel Church,Green Ying Ranch in Zhongpu Township has used lighting to turn its whimsically charming butterfly-viewing house into the winter-limited “Church of Winter Light,”a dreamy and dazzling nighttime spectacle available only until February 28.

Green Ying Ranch not only offers rich, creamy milk but also boasts vast grasslands and a natural ecosystem. Visitors can learn about dairy farming and enjoy butterfly watching here, making it a popular choice for weekend outings. Sincethe ranch owner doesn’t believe in caging butterflies for visitors to view, they built a “butterfly-viewing house” where guests can hide themselves and observe butterflies flying freely outdoors.It was launched in mid-November last year, aiming to facilitate a dialogue between people and nature through the butterfly-viewing house.

By walking down a path that resembles a butterfly spreading its wings, you’ll come across the “butterfly-viewing house.” Its pink front entrance looks like a small birdcage, with wide-open doors waiting for visitors to enter. Green Ying Ranch statesthat the main motifs of the butterfly-viewing house are a birdcage, a circular hole, and a cross, symbolizing confinement, wholeness, and redemption, respectively. The design of the indoor circular hole creates varying atmospheres through changes in light and shadow no matter when you visit. The cross on the other side of the butterfly-viewing house, enhanced by special lighting, forms a stunning visual and becomes the most photogenic spot once night falls.。

Please note that in line with the ranch’s operating hours, the butterfly-viewing house “Church of Winter Light” is only lit up on weekends. Visitors should plan their trip accordingly.
