Traveling in Tokyo without worrying about internet access—180 Tokyo Metro stations now offer free WiFi

With the continuous increase in inbound tourists, Japan is placing greater emphasis on providing free WiFi services. To make exploring Tokyo more convenient for travelers,Tokyo Metro will install free WiFi in all of its managed stations starting June 1,and will also roll out free internet access on its trains throughout this year.

Currently, Tokyo Metro only provides free internet access at 108 stations, but with the growing number of inbound tourists, the company has decided to expand the coverage. Starting June 1,all stations across Tokyo Metro’s nine lines will offer free wireless internet. Travelers can connect to the “Metro_Free_Wi-Fi” hotspot, with each session lasting up to three hours. After three hours, users need to reconnect, but there is no daily limit to the number of connections.。

In addition, Tokyo Metropolitan Government Railway (Toei Subway) has also begun offering free WiFi on its trains, starting with the Asakusa Line, with plans to expand the service to four lines in the future. Passengers can connect to the “Toei_Subway_Free_Wi-Fi” hotspot in train cars, with each session also lasting up to three hours. After three hours, users need to reconnect, but there is no daily limit to the number of connections.
