The grilled toast craze doesn’t seem to be slowing down. The other day while strolling through the Minsheng community, I spotted a new grilled toast shop and immediately came to try it out.

This shop is located near the entrance of the first alley behind the intersection of Section 5, Minsheng East Road, and Xinzhong Street.

Looking at the signboard, besides breakfast in the morning, they also seem to serve dinner at night. After asking the owner, I learned that cold noodles and other dinner items will only be available after the Lunar New Year, and they’re not operating in the evenings for now.

There aren’t many seats inside.

Besides grilled toast, they also sell egg pancakes here, but there are only two flavors—the main focus is still on grilled toast.

Signature black tea (NT$25)
They offer sandwiches, egg pancakes, and drinks, so breakfast is pretty substantial. The black tea isn’t too astringent and is slightly sweet—the tea flavor is moderate, not like the taste of packaged tea bags. It’s probably sourced from a tea supplier they partner with. It’s quite good, though the cups are a bit small XD

Spicy meat & egg toast with cheese (NT$65)
Here’s another grilled toast that’s different from what you’d expect. I thought it would have chili or hot sauce, but it actually comes with spicy pickled cabbage XD

The portion of toast isn’t very large, but considering the price, it’s reasonable. At first bite, the meat & egg toast tastes like a fairly traditional version, with a hint of peanut butter flavor, paired with chewy pork loin, cheese, and eggs—the taste is decent. However, the pickled cabbage adds a sourness XD, and the spice level is noticeable, so the overall flavor is dominated by the spicy pickled cabbage. While the pickled cabbage does add a crispy texture, the taste becomes somewhat monotonous. Old K thinks the plain meat & egg toast might be better on its own.

Japanese-style cheese egg pancake (NT$50)
An egg pancake for NT$50 isn’t exactly cheap, but it seems okay once you see it—it’s noticeably larger than a regular egg pancake, topped with mayonnaise and some spices.

When you pick it up, it looks like a scallion pancake, and it tastes like one too XD. The crust isn’t very crispy but has a soft, chewy texture. It’s similar to an okonomiyaki or takoyaki-style scallion pancake with egg, offering a tangy-sweet flavor with a hint of dried bonito. Since Old K prefers crispier scallion pancakes, this one isn’t his favorite—the texture really depends on personal preference.
Old K’s little reminder: This grilled toast shop in the Minsheng community is pretty okay in Old K’s opinion. The grilled toast suits his taste more than the egg pancakes. Unless you’re a big fan of pickled cabbage, just go for the meat & egg toast. As for the egg pancakes, those who enjoy a soft and chewy texture can give them a try.
