Travel to Japan is extremely popular, with average passenger load factors on flights to Japan ranging from 70% to 80%. Targeting the Taiwanese market for Japan travel, many airlines are actively adding new Taiwan-Japan routes, with Hokkaido routes being one of the key targets. It’s rumored that Tigerair Taiwan will open a Hokkaido route, sparking high expectations among many travelers. Tigerair Taiwan stated that the exact launch date and schedule are still under planning and remain uncertain at this time.

Taiwanese love traveling to Japan. Although the Japanese yen has been appreciating recently, it hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm for Japan travel. In addition to popular routes such as Narita, Haneda, and the Kansai region (Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe), Hokkaido is also a favorite destination for Taiwanese travelers. It’s rumored that Tigerair Taiwan will launch a Hokkaido route in June. Lin Chiao-wan, marketing manager at Tigerair Taiwan, said that launching a Hokkaido route is likely a goal for all airlines, but whether it will actually happen is still subject to internal discussions and confirmation. The current plans are still under consideration, and nothing is set in stone.

Currently, Tigerair Taiwan operates 12 destinations and 13 routes. The latest route, from Taoyuan to Nagoya, began service on January 29 and is the eighth route from Taiwan to Japan. Although the June launch of the Hokkaido route by Tigerair Taiwan has not yet been finalized, flights to Okinawa will be increased by the end of March to meet the demand for Japan travel among Taiwanese.

According to statistics from the Civil Aeronautics Administration, in December last year, China Airlines, EVA Air, and TransAsia Airways operated a total of 140 flights to Sapporo, making 280 round trips, with an average passenger load factor of 77.8%. China Airlines reached 88.4%, EVA Air 82.4%, and TransAsia Airways also achieved nearly 60% load factor.
