No more scalpers！ Starting July, Tokyo’s “Ghibli Museum” to implement named-ticket system

The “Ghibli Museum Mitaka,” a must-visit for Studio Ghibli fans in Tokyo, will introduce a named-ticket system from July to prevent scalping. This means that tickets will be printed with the buyer’s name, and visitors must present ID when entering. Those who are not the ticket holder may be denied entry.

Currently, tickets for the Ghibli Museum Mitaka go on sale for the following month on the 10th of each month, but due to only four time slots per day and overall visitor limits, tickets are hard to come by—leading to rampant scalping.

To crack down on scalpers, the museum announced on the 1st that it will begin implementing a “named-ticket system” from July. Not only will tickets be printed with the purchaser’s name, but visitors will also be required to show an ID (such as a passport or student ID) upon entry. If one person buys multiple tickets, all accompanying visitors must enter together with the purchaser. If the name on the ticket does not match the person, entry may be denied.
