New attraction in a fairytale town & hidden flower petal omelets – A light cycling trip around Taichung in one day

The Dongfeng Green Corridor is Taiwan’s first bicycle path transformed from an abandoned railway, stretching 12 kilometers in total. With tree-shaded views of farmland, tunnels, and more along the route, and no vehicle interference, it has become a popular destination for outdoor outings. It gets crowded on holidays, and to attract more visitors to explore its backstreets, Jiufangli in Shigang District has specially created a fairy-tale town, which will officially open to visitors this November.

Characters from well-known stories like The Frog Prince, The Little Match Girl, and Hansel and Gretel come to life on the walls. Master painter Zeng Jincheng, who previously worked on murals in Jiameili, Chiayi, has been adding color to the alleys and corners since June last year. Now in its third phase, visitors can admire a total of 11 3D murals. One of them, a 20-ping 4D painting themed on The Wizard of Oz, incorporates delightful Taiwanese details as a pleasant surprise.

0 Egg Platform

In addition to the 3D murals, another popular photo spot along the route is the 0 Egg Platform, where visitors often stop to take pictures. A blue abandoned train sits on the platform, and visitors can sit or stand on the steps to capture nostalgic farewell-style photos. The quirky name “0 Egg” comes from the fact that after Shigang Station was closed, the platform became a gathering spot for small retailers—some called it the “zero-load platform,” giving it its cute name. Nowadays, only the grandfather selling bubble tea occasionally offers his old-fashioned ice cream there.

The owner of Yongchun Tea Flower Garden is a tea flower expert with eight years of experience cultivating over 780 varieties of tea flowers. The 3,000-ping garden is located downhill from the 4D mural and is open to visitors for free. Guests can also enjoy the flowers and take beautiful photos. In addition to tea flowers, the garden also grows butterfly pea flowers, which have been popular in recent years. Even if you don’t buy any flowers, you can still try the stunning petal egg pancakes sold on-site.
