The Osaka Okawa Cherry Blossom Festival is about to kick off!The Osaka Tourism Bureau estimates that cherry blossoms along both banks of the Okawa River will start blooming on March 26th, lasting for about two weeks, with peak bloom in early April.Starting from“Water Cruise on the Okawa”, the event will also begin, letting you admire a “cherry blossom explosion” spectacle along both riverbanks from your boat. In addition, theMint Bureau cherry blossoms, also rated as a “must-visit once in a lifetime,” are expected to open in early April — those wanting to join the pilgrimage should act quickly!
Every year in March and April is the peak season for cherry blossoms in Japan. Aside from being a national pastime for the Japanese, it’s also one of the most popular “pilgrimages” for Taiwanese people. The Osaka Tourism Bureau estimates that the 2016 Okawa Cherry Blossom Season will begin around March 26th, when cherry blossoms on both sides of the Okawa will start to bloom, with the blooming period expected to last until April 10th. In addition to enjoying the flowers on foot, there is a “Water Cruise Osaka” itinerary starting from Hatchobori Wharf, where you can take various types of yachts and water buses to admire the “pink-bursting cherry blossoms” on both sides — no need to jostle through crowds for a relaxing sakura experience!

The “Water Cruise on the Okawa” itinerary of the Okawa Cherry Blossom Season starts from Hatchobori Wharf. Along the way, you’ll see the OMM Building, Osaka Castle, Sakurabashi Bridge, the Mint Bureau, and Tenmabashi Bridge. The cruise lasts about 30 minutes and then returns to Hatchobori Wharf. Operations start daily at 10:00 AM and end at 7:00 PM, and will not be suspended unless there is heavy rain!
In addition, along both banks of the Okawa, there is a cherry blossom viewing spot“The Mint Bureau”, which is hailed as the “No.1 Sakura Path in Kansai.” The Mint Bureau is generally not open to the public, but only during the cherry blossom season in March and April. The varieties of cherry blossoms here are completely different from those along the Okawa, making the breathtaking scenery unforgettable for all who visit.
