Enjoy the "taro flowers" from a different angle – 6 trails to view calla lilies at Zhuzihu

The annual Zhuzihu Calla Lily Season is about to kick off. Zhuzihu is internationally renowned for its sea of calla lily blooms. The Taipei City Government’s Department of Urban Development’s Geotechnical Engineering Office has specially recommended six hiddenriverside trails. Visitors are encouraged to take a trip to Zhuzihu during the blooming season, escape the city, and enjoy a white calla lily journey.

1. Dinghu Circular Trail
Ideal for enjoying vast fields of calla lilies, the majestic scenery of Xiaoyoukeng, egrets, and small terraced fields. Walking time is about 20 minutes.

2. Calla Lily Circular Trail
Offers views of historic waterwheels and ecological ponds left by early farmers, as well as the chance to enjoy the cool waters of the stream at the circular play area. Walking time is about 20 minutes.

3. Literary Trail
Features the sound of babbling streams, waterfalls, rock formations, small hills, and terraced mountain slopes. Walking time is about 10 minutes.

4. Hudi Circular Trail
Allows you to climb and gaze at the hillside calla lily terraces. Walking time is about 15 minutes.

5. Zhuzihu Circular Trail
This is the longest trail, entering from Hutian Bridge and connecting East Lake, Dinghu, Shuiwei, and Xiahu through a looped mountain trail and roads. Walking time is about 50 minutes, allowing you to enjoy the picturesque scenery of Zhuzihu along the way.

6. Taro Love Trail
Depending on the season, you can enjoy calla lilies (March–May), love-in-a-mist flowers (April–June), and hydrangeas (May–August). Each visit brings a new surprise. Walking time is about 15 minutes.

Cao Changzheng, head of Huti Village in Beitou District, said that Zhuzihu is located in the Datun Mountain Range of the Taipei Basin, at an altitude of 650 meters. It enjoys a comfortable climate all year round and features rare volcanic landscapes in the world, with rich and diverse native flora and fauna. As a typical rural settlement, local residents have long worked with the Taipei City Government to develop a variety of distinctive attractions. Events such as the annual “Calla Lily Season,” “Hydrangea Season,” and “Sunflower Season” attract large numbers of tourists. From April to May, visitors can even stay into the evening to admire the magical glow of fireflies.

Huang Tingzhao, head of the Soil and Water Conservation Section at the Geotechnical Engineering Office, said that calla lilies bloom vibrantly every spring. Strolling between wild streams and calla lily fields and experiencing the joy of picking calla lilies by hand, along with the stunning cherry blossom trees along the way, offers breathtaking mountain scenery that refreshes the mind and spirit. The office has integrated local needs and carried out stream restoration, maintaining ecological balance and recreational benefits. This has led to the thriving agricultural and tourism industries in the Zhuzihu area, making it an ideal destination for family leisure and outings.

Transportation guide for viewing calla lilies at Zhuzihu, Yangmingshan, is as follows:

1. Take bus 108, 109, 110, 230, 260, or Red 5 to Yangmingshan, then transfer to bus 小9 to Zhuzihhu.
2. Go to Beitou Station on the Tamsui Line of the MRT, then transfer to bus 小9 to Zhuzihhu.
3. Go to Shipai Station on the Tamsui Line of the MRT, then transfer to bus 小8 to Zhuzihhu.
4. Take bus 131 (a loop route from the Second Parking Lot of Yangmingshan Park to Zhuzihhu).
5. Take Royal Bus (Taipei–Jinshan Line) to Zhuzihhu Police Station.
