Exclusive Preview: Pingtung’s Colorful Rice Festival Teams Up with EVA Air, Featuring Planes and City Gates in the Fields

Pingtung’s Colorful Rice Life festival is set to take place from April 1 to May 8 in Longshui Community, Pingtung County. This year’s colorful rice design is a collaboration with EVA Air, featuring a 3D painted airplane motif. The Pingtung County Government today (29th) unveiled aerial photos of the colorful rice fields for the first time. Composed of five different colored rice varieties, the design combines an airplane motif with the image of Hengchun’s city gate, creating a highly eye-catching display.

The 2016 Pingtung Colorful Rice Life Festival will be held from Friday, April 1 to Sunday, May 8 in Longshui Li, Hengchun Township, covering an area of up to 1 hectare over a 38-day period. Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Meng-an stated that this is the first collaboration with EVA Air, with EVA Air’s shipping containers transformed into installation art and viewing platforms. EVA Air Group spokesperson Ko Chin-cheng added that they look forward to promoting Taiwan’s unique features through this partnership.

In addition to the colorful rice fields, the festival has planned five themed areas, including the “Rice Wave Starry Sky Camping Zone,” where visitors can observe the Southern Cross star in the spring night sky; the “Rice Field Scenic Photo Area,” combining art installations for great photo opportunities in the paddies; the “Paddy Field Fun Zone,” allowing people to experience the joy of transplanting rice seedlings; and the “Pingtung Good Market,” showcasing local products from century-old shops, small farmers, and businesses.
