Extended praise again！ Keikyu Electric Railway turns into Taiwan Railways’ ordinary express train, running in Japan until June

To mark the upcoming first anniversary of its friendship agreement with Taiwan’s Railway Administration, Keikyu Electric Railway (Keikyu) has specially painted one of its 2100 series trains to resemble Taiwan Railways’ ordinary express train starting in February. Many netizens were moved upon seeing it, commenting “Taiwan-Japan friendship” and “it’s nostalgic and touching.” Keikyu and Taiwan Railways recently reached a consensus to extend the originally planned run of the painted train, which was scheduled to operate only until March 26, now set to continue running until early June.

Keikyu launched a commemorative train for the first anniversary of its friendship agreement with Taiwan Railways, featuring a royal blue body with white lines to recreate Taiwan Railways’ ordinary express train. Below the lines is the Taiwan Railways emblem, and the front of the train displays a “Taiwan Railways x Keikyu” logo. Even the cowcatcher is painted in Taiwan Railways’ signature yellow-and-black warning color, making for a highly detailed design. After seeing footage of the train in service, many netizens commented on the Taiwan-Japan friendship and expressed emotion at seeing an ordinary express train again after so long.

The painted train was originally scheduled to run from February 22 to March 26. Due to its popularity in Japan, Keikyu and Taiwan Railways decided to extend the operation period, now expected to last until early June, giving Taiwanese travelers a chance to spot the Taiwan Railways-style ordinary express train on the Keikyu Airport Line.

Taiwan Railways Director-General Chu Yung-hui also posted on Facebook to announce that the Taiwan Railways-painted Keikyu red train will be running in Taipei in May, bringing the “trains traversing time and space” experience to Taiwan as well.
