The Hall of the "Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum" Under Maintenance; No Unreserved Entry Allowed Before End of June

The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum was previously criticized for water leakage in parts of its glass curtain wall, prompting public complaints about its deteriorating condition. Recently, the Ministry of the Interior announced that starting from the 11th, the reception hall on the second floor of the Feibai Building will be closed for comprehensive maintenance. To ensure the quality of visitors’ experience, in addition to adjusting visitor routes, entry to the museum will, in principle, be by reservation only until the end of June.

The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum previously experienced hall leakage issues, which raised questions about the quality of its construction. With July marking the official commencement of full operations, the Construction and Planning Agency and museum management decided to carry out comprehensive maintenance starting from the 11th to achieve a higher standard of museum quality. However, if scaffolding were to be erected in the hall during construction, it would inevitably compromise visitor safety. As a result, the decision was made to close the reception hall on the second floor of the Feibai Building. The maintenance will also include electrical and mechanical repairs, cleaning, and other tasks, all to be completed at once, with work expected to finish by the end of June.

Currently, the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum receives around 5,000 to 6,000 visitors daily, with numbers surging to as many as 15,000 during holiday periods. Due to adjustments in visitor routes, only visitors with reservations will be allowed entry until the end of June, and walk-in or standby visits will generally not be permitted.
