China Airlines Fleet Renewal: A350’s Four Major Advantages Take Flight

China AirlinesThe first new A350-900 XWB aircraft has been assembled in France and is about to undergo cabin seat installation and fuselage painting, with delivery scheduled for July. Assembly of the second A350 aircraft has also begun.China Airlines Chairman Sun Hong-xiang stated that the airline will introduce 14 new A350 aircraft starting this year, creating the airline’s “four major advantages.” This not only contributes to fleet renewal but also leads a wave of innovation in Taiwan’s aviation industry.

Sun Hong-xiang made these remarks after inspecting the assembly of the new aircraft at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France last week. He pointed out that four A350 aircraft will be delivered this year, bringing the airline “four major advantages.” The first is a “younger fleet,” with the average age of long-haul aircraft dropping to 3.6 years; the second is“more fuel-efficient flights.” The A350 offers improved capacity and 17% lower fuel consumption, saving NT$70 million per aircraft annually.。

The third advantage is “faster direct flights.”Starting in December, A350s will fly directly to Amsterdam and Rome, allowing passengers to skip layovers and save approximately four hours.The fourth is a “more European experience,” which will utilize the five senses—sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste—to showcase European cultural vibes, reflecting youthfulness, fashion, creativity, and taste.

China AirlinesThe A350 cabin accommodates 306 seats across three classes: 32 in luxury business class, 31 in premium economy, and 243 in economy class, which includes family sleeper cabins—more than the current A340’s 276 seats.The 14 A350-900XWBs, along with 10 B777-300ERs, will serve as the main long-haul aircraft for China Airlines.

Starting in December, China Airlines plans to operate A350s on routes to Amsterdam, Rome, and Vienna. Flights will include three weekly services to Vienna, four to Amsterdam, and two to Rome. Additionally, Frankfurt flights will increase to seven per week starting in June, totaling 16 weekly flights to Europe—averaging at least two direct flights to Europe per day—to establish Taiwan’s leading brand for direct Europe routes.

China Airlines noted that the 14 Airbus A350-900 XWBs (Xtra Wide Body) ordered are the world’s “most technologically advanced, eco-friendly, fuel-efficient, spacious, and quiet” aircraft. To enhance the uniqueness of the China Airlines brand and continue its next-generation style,the A350 cabin will create a European ambiance through the five senses, including ambient lighting tailored to seasons and passenger schedules, metropolitan-style boarding and disembarking music, a unique woody cabin fragrance, and Sky Bistro European bistro-style inflight cuisine.These elements allow passengers to immerse themselves in European culture while onboard, experiencing China Airlines’ youthful, vibrant, fashionable, and innovative brand image.
