The Best Sommelier of the World: Le Mout’s Sommelier Represents Taiwan for the First Time

The World Best Sommelier Competition is set to kick off on April 15 in Mendoza, Argentina, running for four days. He Xinwei, sommelier at Le Mout French Restaurant, will represent Taiwan. This marks the first official participation by Taiwan since the Taiwanese Sommelier Association (TSA) became a member country of the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI) in 2015.

Since winning the Taiwan Sommelier Championship in 2011, He Xinwei has represented Taiwan in various international events, including the 2011 Southeast Asia Best Sommelier Competition, the 2012 Asia-Oceania Best Sommelier Competition, where he was also invited to serve as an international judge for the Indonesia Best Sommelier Competition that same year, and the 2013 World Sommelier Competition. Additionally, He Xinwei recently obtained international sommelier certification—held by only 104 sommeliers worldwide—making him one of only two sommeliers in Taiwan to possess this credential.
