Located at Yuntai Mountain’s Zhuyu Peak in Henan Province, China, there is a glass walkway constructed on the edge of a canyon. Although the scenery is stunningly beautiful, it poses a major challenge for those who are afraid of heights. Online videos have compiled moments when visitors with acrophobia had panic attacks—some men were so terrified their legs gave out, babbling incoherently as they knelt and cried, “Ah!! Don’t touch me!! Don’t touch me!!” and used garbled, alien-like language to plead, “@#$%&* Hold me!!” Some elderly women clung tightly to the rock walls, struggling to move forward; others could only lie on the ground while being dragged by friends.

Yuntai Mountain boasts rich canyon landform landscapes. Zhuyu Peak stands 1,080 meters high, and this glass walkway is built halfway up the mountain, winding along the cliffside in a U-shape. It stretches 68 meters and is made of three layers of tempered laminated bulletproof glass, reportedly capable of bearing over 800 kilograms.

Although visitors must wear shoe covers before stepping onto the walkway to prevent damage to the glass from shoe soles, last year there were reports of a tourist accidentally dropping a stainless steel cup onto the glass, causing it to crack. The incident startled many visitors, prompting people to push those in front of them in panic. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the walkway has since been repaired.

While the scenery is undeniably rugged and spectacular, the glass walkway remains a huge test for those with a fear of heights. Online videos compiling acrophobic reactions emphasize, “Don’t laugh—this is what happens to people who are afraid of heights.” In the footage, a man panics and becomes incoherent, kneeling and crawling while crying out, “Ah ah!! Don’t touch me!! Don’t touch me!!” He then seemingly calls for help, “Hold me!! Hold me now!!”

Another woman refused to step on the glass at all, carefully climbing along the rock wall with a conflicted expression. Others gripped the handrails tightly, too weak in the legs to move and had to be dragged along by friends, an awkward mix of tears and laughter.
