China Airlines launched a Mother’s Day-themed flight in 2016 titled 【Love for Shizuoka. Reverence for a Lifetime】, taking passengers who were lucky enough to secure a spot on the special journey on a 3-day, 2-night trip. Unlike typical big-city itineraries, this one brought travelers toJapan’s tea capital — Shizuoka — to experience authentic tea culture, and also to the “Hamana Lake Flower Festival,” where they enjoyed the bliss of being surrounded by flowers, leaving mothers with unforgettable memories.

Following the charter flight itinerary, the first day took us to Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan. Upon arrival at Shizuoka Airport, mascots from various cities in Shizuoka greeted the passengers, instantly conveying the warm hospitality of the region. When one thinks of Shizuoka, “tea” immediately comes to mind. As the homeland of tea, Shizuoka Prefecture boasts the largest tea production in Japan, accounting for 50% of the country’s total tea output.

Mishima City in Shizuoka is home to vast tea plantations. As soon as you step into the tea fields, you’re greeted by the refreshing aroma of tea. Many nearby tea gardens are open to visitors free of charge. Aside from observing the tea production process, guests can also try their hand at traditional Japanese tea brewing and learn about authentic Japanese tea culture.

Not far from Shizuoka Airport, coastal Yaizu City is known for its fishing industry. The Yaizu Fish Market acts as a central distribution hub for seafood, second only to the famous Tsukiji Market. The market has over 70 specialty shops, not only selling fresh seafood but also serving exceptional sushi and seafood dishes.
