In just six months, Tokyo’s Tsukiji Market will relocate to the new Toyosu Market. Sushi establishments located in the Inner Market, such as Sushi Dai and Daiwa Sushi, will follow suit, prompting many to rush there for a final visit out of fear they’ll no longer be able to enjoy fresh nigiri sushi. However, lately, lines at Sushi Dai have been getting longer and wait times even longer, with some people starting to queue as early as the middle of the night. In truth, you don’t need to go through all that trouble to enjoy great sushi.

The Outer Market, located next to Tsukiji Market, will not be moving. The food here is no less impressive than that in the Inner Market, and it alone boasts 35 sushi restaurants, including several long-established ones. Many of these eateries also receive good ratings on the Japanese food website Tabelog, with 11 scoring above 3.5. Among them, Showa Koagari has a rating of 3.72, very close to Sushi Dai’s 3.86. Rather than waiting four hours for a meal, why not head to one of these places and use the time saved to explore other attractions?
