The Tourism Bureau’s “Taiwan’s Top 10 Small Tourist Towns” selection has entered the second and final phase. The voting period will end at 12:00 noon on March 9. Currently, Beigan Township of Lienchiang County (Matsu), Beitou Fenghua Town in Taipei City, Luoyeh – the hometown of hot air balloons in Taitung County, and Makong Indigenous Culture Town in Penghu County are the bottom four, with critically low vote counts. Meanwhile, San-Yi Wooden Sculpture Art Town in Miaoli County is leading the race with over 200,000 votes.

Due to the significantly low vote count for Beitou Fenghua Town, the Taipei City Government has mobilized 50 major business districts in the city to boost votes. Starting tomorrow (February 25), around 100 voting stations will be set up in 20 business districts, including Ningxia Business District, Houtienzhan Business District, Dalongtong Business District, Monga Business District, Ximending Business District, NTU Guting Business District, Xinbeitou Hot Spring Business District, and Maokong Tea Qin Business District. Members of the public who vote on-site to support Taipei can enter the lucky draw right away. Prizes are provided by local businesses, totaling 50,000 giveaways including beef noodles, hot spring vouchers, and pineapple cakes.
In addition, from now until March 4, every Saturday and Sunday starting at 1:00 pm, I LOVE BEITOU and XINYI voting events will be held in Beitou District and Xinyi District. On-site voters will receive a commemorative coaster prepared by the Department of Information and Tourism, while supplies last.

Liu Cheng-hung, Magistrate of Miaoli County, whose town is currently leading the vote, said that Miaoli’s San-Yi boasts Taiwan’s only International Woodcarving Museum, a woodcarving industry street, and the historic Old Mountain Line – a potential UNESCO World Heritage Site – along with unique festivals such as the Wooden Sculpture Art Festival, Cloud Fire Dragon Festival, and Hakka Tung Blossom Festival, all of which meet the criteria for Taiwan’s Top 10 Small Tourist Towns. Meanwhile, the votes for Dajia District’s Mazu culture in Taichung and Meinong District in Kaohsiung have both exceeded 160,000, placing them second and third respectively. For the “Taiwan’s Top 10 Small Tourist Towns” vote, each person can cast up to six votes per day for different towns. Online voting ends at 12:00 noon on March 9, and postcard voting must be received by March 7.
