From now until the end of April, the New Taipei City Sanxia Museum is hosting an “Animal-Shaped Essential Oil Soap DIY” experience activity every Saturday and Sunday. In addition to making your own essential oil soap by hand, you can also casually learn about Taiwan’s prehistoric and indigenous cultures, making it a perfect family-friendly activity.

The “Animal-Shaped Essential Oil Soap DIY” activity draws inspiration from artifacts unearthed at the Sanxia archaeological site and incorporates designs based on Taiwanese indigenous patterns. A variety of cleverly designed, adorable, and meaningful shapes serve as the base for the soaps — such as the popular “Piggy Figurine” shape, which tells the story of the close relationship between wild boars and the lives of indigenous peoples, offering insight into the wisdom of prehistoric humans. There's also the “Paiwan Tribe Chief” figurine wearing a bear-eagle feather headdress, which shares the mysterious legend of why the proud and dignified Paiwan chief wore these impressive feathers. Additionally, there are heart-shaped designs inspired by duets and folk dances, as well as figurines modeled after the Yi-Pai Princess.
The Sanxia Museum noted that in addition to making soap, participants will also receive a small Sanxia Family animal figurine charm. This charming trinket can be placed inside the soap, not only enriching the soap’s appearance but also adding a fun twist to its use. The “Animal-Shaped Essential Oil Soap DIY” experience activity is held every Saturday and Sunday until the end of April (with one session at 10:30 AM and another at 3:00 PM), and each session has 20 spots available. The material fee is NT$60 per person.
