Organized by the Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Community Culture Festival has become an annual highlight for local communities. This year’s event will take place from November 6 to 10 at the Hui-Zhong Building of the New Municipal Government Office and the plaza in front of Taichung City Hall, with a series of activities planned under the theme “Urban and Rural Together: Communities Showcase Treasures.” In addition to static achievement exhibitions, community industry souvenirs, creative cultural product markets, stage performances, community crafts, and food-themed interactive experiences, the static exhibition of the “Taichung Story House”—a selected work from the “One District, One Story” initiative—will revive old Taichung’s growth memories from earlier times. These include the pioneering history of the settlers at Jiufang Mountain, such as the “Grandma Holding a Child” Land God Temple, the “Xichuan Ancient Ritual Wedding Troupe” that preserves folk arts, and Shigang’s “Five Blessings Arrival” sacred tree. These elements will bring different eras of Taichung back to life and pass on local culture.

Among this year’s Community Culture Festival events, the static achievement exhibition will kick off on November 6. It will feature annual social innovation achievements from Taichung’s social innovation spots and local district offices, as well as community souvenir displays. Examples include the Wuling Forest Community in Wufeng, which developed the “Art Tour Wuling Eco House” inspired by the village bird, the owl; the South District Office, which collaborated with the Taiwan Match Story Museum to create the fun and delicious “Fan-A Match” specialty product; and the Wuguang De Culture Association, which presented a rural theater based on local legends. The Shigang District Office also featured the “Xiaoyun Lantern” combining cultural heritage and historic sites, along with a fan-shaped guide map of scenic spots.
Additionally, the main event will take place on November 10, featuring a Community Starlight Boulevard competition, community performances, and contests. On-site displays will showcase the achievements of the “One District, One Characteristic Plan” by various Taichung district offices for the year 2011. That day will also feature dragon-eye wood puppetry from the Wuling Forest Community in Wufeng, DIY paper-cutting of old street heritage from the Renhe Community, Taiwan match cookies from the South District Office, millet handicrafts by the Indigenous Xiangchuan Agricultural Leisure Tourism Promotion Association, lacquerware cultural and creative products from the Fengyuan District Office, storytelling paintings of traditional toys from the Hengshan Community, persimmon cakes from the Gratitude Care Association’s “Persimmon-Filled Persimmon Garden,” and insect bamboo weaving DIY activities from the Shigang District Office. A total of 70 types and 1,800 creative interactive experiences will be available for the public to enjoy free of charge.
