To promote international events across Taiwan’s cities and counties, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has launched the Taiwan Tourism Calendar County/City International Events Selection Program. After the first phase of preliminary discussions by scholars and experts, a total of 29 international events from cities and counties across Taiwan have been selected. From now until 12:00 noon on November 26, an online vote will be open to select the international events that best represent Taiwan. Each person can cast up to 8 votes per day for different participating tourism events. All participants in the voting have the chance to win major prizes such as mobile phones, bicycles, and convenience store gift vouchers.

The selected county/city international events include the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival in New Taipei City, which has been ranked by media outlet DISCOVERY as the world’s second-largest festival and carnival event, as well as the Toucheng King of the Mountain Grab Folk Culture Activity in Yilan, which carries rich religious and folk cultural significance. Other events include the Taichung Mazu International Tourism and Cultural Festival, the Kaohsiung Neimen Songjiang Battle Array, the Taitung Hot Air Balloon Carnival suitable for family participation, and outlying island events such as the Penghu Maritime Fireworks Festival and the Kinmen Mid-Autumn “Grab the Scholar’s Cake” Festival.
