Xingang Fishing Port in Chenggong Township, Taitung County, is the largest fishing harbor on Taiwan’s east coast. From October each year to around the Lunar New Year, the black marlin, red meat sailfish, white marlin, and swordfish caught during this period have the highest fat content. The fish are plump and muscular, with firm flesh and no bones. Besides being ideal for sashimi, they can also be prepared into a variety of dishes with different flavors, offering an excellent taste. This year, Taitung will also host the East Coast Sailfish Festival to attract visitors, taking place from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on November 25 (Sunday) in Chenggong Township.

The 2012 East Coast Sailfish Festival activities include the Harpoon King Competition, Sailfish Gourmet Feast, song and dance performances, and more. The Sailfish Gourmet Feast features a special menu of 10 sailfish dishes, one soup, and two bottles of drinks, with 50 tables available. Each table is valued at NT$3,500 (with the public paying NT$2,500). The banquet will be held at 12:00 PM on November 25, at the Seaside Park Plaza in Chenggong Township. The Taitung County Agriculture Department noted that this year’s catch of sailfish has reached 594 metric tons, with tuna reaching 564 metric tons. Now is the time to enjoy the freshest and sweetest flavors of the Pacific Ocean. Every afternoon, freshly caught fish from that day’s haul arrive at Xingang Fishing Port in Chenggong Township, Taitung County. From late October to December each year, the port attracts many seafood lovers eager to indulge in sailfish.
