To promote Korea’s rich winter tourism offerings and unique ice festivals, the Korea Tourism Organization is holding the “2012 Korea Ski & Winter Festival Carnival” at the circular plaza on the first floor of Taipei’s Pacific SOGO Department Store Zhongxiao Branch from now until November 25. The event will feature traditional Korean games such as hacky sack and tuho (pitch-pot), opportunities to try on beautiful hanbok or stylish snowsuits, and a wealth of free informational materials on Korea’s winter festivals. There will also be performances by Korea’s super-popular "JUMP" show, lively acts by traditional Korean street performers, and a simulated ice fishing activity—modeled after Korea’s famous winter festival events—for children to enjoy.

During the five-day event, from November 21 to 23, invited guests—including food and travel writer Winston Wen, Korean KBS program representative in Taiwan Professor Hsu I-ling, and Hallyu editor Zhang Yuqi—will share their fun experiences traveling in Korea at 8:00 PM each evening. The weekend of November 24–25 will be the climax of the “2012 Korea Ski & Winter Festival Carnival ~ Snow Ski & Fun in Korea” event, with continuous activities from 11:00 AM to 9:30 PM. In addition to ski instructors teaching skiing techniques, visitors can try on snow boots and boards and experience walking on ice for themselves. On Saturday afternoon, there will be a special K-POP demonstration and lesson by KNIGHT, letting participants dance like K-pop stars. The event will also offer free snowman-making workshops for two days, limited to 160 participants, so everyone can make and take home their own little snowman. As for the most fun part of Korea’s winter festivals—ice fishing—there will also be a simulated ice fishing activity for kids to try.

Additionally, the much-anticipated Korean hit show “JUMP,” a traditional martial arts comedy, will be performed at 4:00 PM on November 24 and 4:30 PM on November 25. This globally popular show transcends language and nationality through its non-verbal, physical comedy, immersing audiences in the performance. Featuring traditional Korean martial arts such as taekwondo, flying sidekicks, and kung fu, the actors use no props—just expressive movement, sound, music, impressive martial skills, and flexibility—to fly and flip across the stage effortlessly. It’s a comedy show perfect for the whole family.
