The National Palace Museum and the Taichung City Government jointly present the digital special exhibition “National Palace Museum Anime Carnival.” From now until March 16, it will be open daily from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM at the Activity Center of Daya Elementary School in Daya District, Taichung City. The public can enter free of charge to admire the impressive digital achievements of national treasures. The exhibition is divided into four major zones: “Decoding Chinese Characters,” “Treasures on the Move,” “Close Encounters with Ancient Paintings,” and “Super Maps,” featuring a total of 12 digital works, six of which are multimedia interactive exhibits. In addition to showcasing highlights of the museum’s collections in calligraphy, artifacts, paintings, and books, visitors can also engage directly through a full-sensory experience—using their eyes, ears, hands, and feet—to discover details of the cultural relics and enjoy the fun of interacting with them.

In the “Decoding Chinese Characters” calligraphy zone, the “Mao Gong Ding Chinese Character Interactive Table” will present the evolution of Chinese characters in animated form. Replicas of the national treasure masterpieces “Quick Snow on a Clear Day” by Wang Xizhi of the Jin Dynasty and “Cold Food Observance” by Su Shi of the Song Dynasty will also be on display. The “Treasures on the Move” artifact zone will screen the award-winning series “Treasures on the Move,” which won the Grand Prize at the Tokyo International Animation Festival and the FIAMP Shock Award. It also includes a specially designed multimedia interactive piece called “Blue and White Doucai,” allowing the public to learn about the porcelain-making process—from blank molding, cobalt application, glazing, to coloring. The “Close Encounters with Ancient Paintings” painting zone features a 12-meter-long “Digital Version of Along the River During the Qingming Festival” and the digitally interactive artwork “Autumn Colors,” inspired by “Autumn Colors on the Que and Hua Mountains” by Zhao Mengfu of the Yuan Dynasty. Classic works such as “Travelers Among Mountains and Streams” by Fan Kuan of the Song Dynasty, “Early Spring” by Guo Xi of the Song Dynasty, and “Wintersweet and Birds in a Mountain Garden” by Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty will also be displayed as reproductions. The “Super Maps” literature zone will showcase the large interactive floor that was highly popular at Taipei’s Huashan 1914 Creative Park, allowing children and adults alike to touch the starry sky, draw constellations, listen to Father Ferdinand Verbiest’s narration, and run alongside mythical beasts in an ancient vast world.

The National Palace Museum stated that to enhance educational outreach, from January 11 to March 14, a series of six lectures will be held at Eslite Bookstore’s Yuandao Branch and Zhongyou Branch in Taichung. Digital art curators and senior guides from the museum will share insights and provide commentary on topics including “How to Appreciate Chinese Painting,” “The Azure Hues of Misty Rain and the Colors of Doucai,” “Calligraphy—The Secrets of Chinese Characters,” and “New Media—Travel Through Interaction.” For more information, visit the official website: www.npm.gov.tw/exh102/animecarnival.
