Selected Winery Museums: Luxury Dreams of Classic Cars, Fine Wines & Premium Goods

Classic cars, fine wines, and luxurious goods weave dreams of opulence beyond mansions, making people eager to possess it all at once. Yet the high costs are beyond most people’s reach. In reality, to realize these luxury dreams, you don’t need to win the lottery or marry into wealth, nor do you have to spend a fortune. Just visit Europe’s classic car museums, luxury watch museums, and wineries. Through viewing and wine tasting, even those on a modest budget can experience the pinnacle of high-end luxury.

 

 

 

After World War II, Ferdinand Porsche and his son approached car design with a pioneering spirit. They believed that cars were not just means of transport, but also a fusion of technology and humanity, eventually developing high-performance sports cars. The Porsche Museum, located within the factory, may look unassuming from the outside, but inside it is a treasure trove for car enthusiasts. So when you’re in Stuttgart, be sure to pay homage to this museum.

In addition to the well-known sedans, Volvo also produces airplanes, ships, buses, construction machinery, and freight vehicles, all of which are displayed here. Taking the more familiar sedans as an example, the collection includes everything from the earliest ÖV4 model to the mass-produced PV51 and the post-WWII bestseller PV444 van, right up to the latest models. There are also many pre-production prototypes (Prototypes) and special-purpose vehicles, such as the earliest electric cars and uniquely styled concept vehicles.

Domaine Pierre Naigeon is located in Gevrey-Chambertin, the largest wine-producing village in the Côte de Nuits and one of Burgundy’s premier red wine regions. Of the 24 Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, nine are in Gevrey-Chambertin, making it the crown jewel of Burgundy. The Chambertin appellation, to which Domaine Pierre Naigeon belongs, is the crème de la crème. Legend has it that Chambertin red wine was Napoleon Bonaparte’s favorite—some say he lost the Battle of Waterloo because he didn’t drink Chambertin the night before. Gevrey-Chambertin uses only Pinot Noir grapes for its red wines. With a history spanning a century, Chambertin has long been favored by wine merchants for its deep color, intense aroma, and full-bodied strength. Not only is it excellent for aging, but the bold character of Pinot Noir also enhances the flavors of wines from other regions. The best drinking window for Chambertin is at least 5 to 10 years after production.

Established in 1794, the Oban Distillery has become an essential destination for whisky enthusiasts as single malt Scotch whisky has gained popularity. Single malt whisky is made from pure barley spirit produced at a single distillery, unlike blended whisky, which mixes malt and grain whiskies. This ensures consistent quality, without the variability that comes from blending spirits from different distilleries, though it tends to have a stronger, bolder taste. All Oban whiskies are aged for 14 years, resulting in a rich and mellow flavor that makes them an excellent choice for gifts.
