Regarded as an annual highlight in Taiwan’s aerospace industry, the "Taiwan Unmanned Aircraft Creative Design Competition" will take place from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on March 16 and 17 under the Gaoshu Bridge in Pingtung. On the opening day of the 16th, Yuneec Electronics, the world's leading manufacturer of remote-controlled helicopters with the highest global market share, will perform 3D dynamic flights, jet engine demonstrations, and showcase model aircraft.

Now in its 6th year, the Taiwan Unmanned Aircraft Creative Design Competition has brought together 93 competing teams. The event is divided into categories including Beginner Electric Flight Performance, Beginner Electric Flapping Wing, Beginner Payload Design, Advanced Design, Beyond Visual Line of Sight, and Creative Aircraft. The competition primarily emphasizes the flight performance of unmanned aircraft, such as aerodynamics, payload capacity, fuel efficiency, and navigation and photography capabilities. It attracts teams from various domestic universities and colleges, along with overseas challengers from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Beihang University in Beijing, and Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia.
Lai Weixiang, a professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at National Cheng Kung University, stated that unmanned aircraft embody the principle of being "small but fully functional." They not only serve as ideal subjects for system integration education for university aerospace students but also represent a crucial area for the future development of aerospace technology. Whether for combat, target drones, reconnaissance, surveillance, disaster investigation, maritime patrol, or anti-smuggling, they offer diverse industrial value in military, governmental, and commercial sectors. Advanced countries are all investing heavily in research and development. Although Taiwan has aircraft model manufacturers, most remain focused on traditional aircraft forms with functions limited to recreational toys. Therefore, this event aims to promote the research and design of newer, higher-value-added unmanned aircraft across various sectors, which will also benefit the development of the domestic aerospace industry, aerial recreation activities, and leisure tourism.
