The giant yellow rubber duck (Rubber Duck Project) has recently become the talk of the town in Hong Kong. Starting from May 2nd, it will be prominently displayed on the waters between Ocean Terminal at Harbour City and the Star Ferry Pier in Hong Kong. The origin of the yellow rubber duck is mainly as a bathtub toy for children. Its hollow and rubbery material allows the yellow rubber duck to easily float on the water's surface. In 1992, a container ship carrying over 29,000 yellow rubber ducks encountered a tropical storm in the Aleutian Islands of the North Pacific. A container full of yellow rubber ducks fell off the ship and broke open, and the 29,000-plus yellow rubber ducks, along with a group of other rubber toys, began an approximately 15-year journey drifting at sea.

These 29,000-plus yellow rubber ducks took separate northern and southern routes, drifting to shores around the world in batches with ocean currents, including South America, Australia, Hawaii, Iceland, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Some even went through the process of freezing and thawing in the Arctic. These yellow rubber ducks have also provided oceanographers with the best opportunity to observe ocean currents, while becoming a classic legend of the seas worldwide.
The peace ambassador, the giant yellow rubber duck, will officially meet everyone in Hong Kong this Thursday. In addition to the 16-meter-tall yellow duck itself, there will also be a series of rubber duck photo exhibitions at “Harbour City Gallery” from May 1st to May 26th.
