Taiwan’s long-established amusement park, Shangri-La Amusement Park, is currently in full bloom with tung blossoms. The park has launched the “May Snow, Tung Blossom Festival” event, featuring not only discounted admission but also special accommodation offers. Shangri-La Amusement Park has reignited the charm of this story-rich, classic amusement park with new visual art. Using the largest 3D landscape art optical illusion in Taiwan, it recreates the obstacle course from the popular TV show “百战百胜” (Invincible). Taiwanese emerging 3D landscape artist Ash Chen Yan-Xu was invited to create this piece at the base of the park’s famous European-style fountain. Born in the 1980s, Ash Chen initially conceived the idea around the theme of the obstacle-course challenges from the show. Utilizing 3D optical illusion techniques, he created the massive 42-meter-long by 8-meter-wide 3D artwork titled “Fighter 战士” (The Fighter), the largest of its kind in Taiwan. In the artwork, viewers first cross a log bridge, ropes, cliffs, monsters, and a final boss before reaching the European fountain — the victory endpoint. Unlike traditional viewing angles, standing at the designated photo spot immerses you in the scene. A slight shift in position makes it feel as if danger lurks all around, creating an exciting and engaging visual experience.

Shangri-La Amusement Park boasts unique natural resources. Every spring, the blooming tung blossoms attract large crowds of visitors. The park is home to hundreds of species of plants and flowers, including precious pines such as two-needle pine and five-needle pine, as well as cherry blossoms, camellias, and osmanthus, which bloom in different seasons, making the park a true beautiful paradise. More uniquely, the park has planted 10,000 Chinese sumac trees, which are a favorite food of the rhinoceros beetle, turning the area into a rhinoceros beetle haven in the summer. The park is also home to up to twenty-plus bird species, and the chorus of birdsongs weaves a wonderful symphony of midsummer. Moreover, the presence of artists has injected fresh creativity into this classic amusement park. With spring in full bloom, families are encouraged to visit Shangri-La to enjoy the mountainful of tung blossoms and experience the visual impact brought by the 3D landscape art.
