For those who love running, besides hitting the city streets, riverside paths, or joining a nighttime fun run under the stars, how about trying something totally different? The Color Run, a fun run billed as “the world’s happiest 5K” that was held 50 times in the United States in 2012 and drew over 600,000 participants, is coming to Taiwan soon. This series of events includes Taipei (September 28), Taichung (November 23), and Kaohsiung (January 11). True to its name, there are no winners, no timing — every kilometer runners pass through color powder zones and get doused with every imaginable hue. At the finish line awaits a vibrant, colorful party where participants toss colored powder into the air together — you’ll be the most amazing palette imaginable.

The Taipei event will be held at Dajia Riverside Park, the Taichung event at Taichung Metropolitan Park, and the Kaohsiung event at the Kaohsiung World Games Main Stadium. This joyful, health-focused, colorful event emphasizes individuality — over 60% of runners are first-timers to the 5K distance, and the whole experience is untimed and non-competitive. The only rules are to wear white at the starting line, ready to be transformed into a more eye-catching character than the Na’vi by a rainbow of colored powder, then sprint to the finish in a blaze of color and dive into an unforgettable color party. Whether you’re 2 or 80 years old, if you want to run, you can join. If you’re the type of runner who can’t run without timing or feels lost without a finishing time, just press the stopwatch on your watch and time it yourself. For those who want to take photos along the way, it’s recommended to wrap your camera or phone in cling film or a plastic bag — otherwise, you might need a new device after the run.

Online registration for The Color Run opens at 2:00 PM on the following dates: Taipei on July 26, Taichung on July 30, and Kaohsiung on August 2. The fee is NT$750 per person, which includes one The Color Run x Nike T-shirt, one The Color Run sports towel, one packet of The Color Run colorful powder, and a race bib.
