MRT Xinyi Line Opens: Top Entertainment Spots Loved by Hong Kong & Japanese Tourists

From November 24th to December 23rd, for a period of one month, rides on the newly opened section between Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station and Elephant Mountain Station will be free when using an EasyCard. In addition, in conjunction with the opening of the Xinyi Line, the original “Taipei Power Building Station – Beitou Station” operating route has been adjusted to “Elephant Mountain Station – Beitou Station.” Passengers can enter and exit via the Zhonghe Line, Taipei Power Building Station, and Guting Station (excluding Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station). For travelers going between the northern part of the Tamsui Line (Taipei Hospital Station and northward) to Beitou Station (including Xinbeitou Station), the EasyCard discount fare during the promotional period will be reduced from 20% off to 30% off (originally 20% off).

 

The Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a commemorative building erected in honor of the late President of the Republic of China, Chiang Kai-shek. The main structure covers an area of approximately 15,000 square meters. In addition to the solemn main building, it includes the classically styled National Theater and National Concert Hall (collectively known as the “Two Theaters”) on both sides, exuding a grand atmosphere. Aside from regularly hosting cultural and artistic events, the vast gallery and performance spaces inside the main hall often hold various exhibitions or host foreign dignitaries. The surrounding areas feature expansive Chinese-style garden courtyards such as the Plaza Boulevard, Outer Corridor, Guanghua Pond, and Yunhan Pond, which serve as leisure spots for Taipei residents in the mornings and on holidays. These areas also frequently become venues for mass gatherings and large-scale cultural events.

Centered around Yongkang Park, the Yongkang Street Night Market spans Yongkang Street and Lishui Street. Though it’s a small night market, it features unique international cuisines, distinctive shops, and cafés rarely found in other night markets. The original branch of Din Tai Fung at the corner of Yongkang Street, serving its signature thin-skinned, juicy, and delicious xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), is also a must-visit food landmark for many international tourists exploring Taipei.

Da’an Forest Park is Taipei’s first forest-themed park and the largest park in the city in terms of area. The park includes a strip of dense woodland, a palm grove, a banyan area, and a red leaf zone. With its lush foliage, it’s a favorite spot for urban dwellers to enjoy forest bathing and breathe in phytoncides—earning it the nickname “the lung of the city.” Additionally, the park features tree-lined walking paths, a children’s play area, an outdoor music stage, and rest areas, with occasional performances held at the music stage.

Located between Section 4 of Xinyi Road and Section 2 of Keelung Road, Tonghua Night Market (also known as Linjiang Night Market) may not be as large as others, but it offers a wide array of street snacks, trendy clothing, and great-value goods—making it a great spot for office workers and students to grab a bite, shop, or pick up affordable fashion in the evenings.
